How to Receive Funding for Coaching Through Your Employer
Did you know that many employers have an annual budget for personal development, sustainable employability, and coaching? This is a great opportunity to invest in your personal growth without it costing you anything. Coaching is often seen as a cost-effective way to support employees, and more and more companies actively encourage it.
Here’s how you can easily apply for funding for coaching through your employer:
1. Check the options with your HR Manager
The Human Resources (HR) or personnel department often has budgets available for coaching, training, and development. Coaching is frequently funded because it is an effective and affordable way to support employees in their career progression. Your HR manager can tell you if you are eligible for this budget.
What can you do?
Ask your HR manager if there is a development or training budget available for coaching. You can always book a free intake session with me. Together, we will discuss your needs, and I’ll help you create a proposal and an offer for the HR department, clearly outlining the purpose and benefits of your coaching journey.
2. Speak to your Line Manager or Director
In some cases, the coaching budget is not handled by HR but is managed by your line manager or director. In this case, you can still book a free orientation session with me. I’ll assist you in preparing a plan and a proposal that you can present to your line manager or director.
What can you do?
Discuss the coaching options with your line manager or director and inquire about the internal procedures for applying for development budgets. I’ll help you navigate this process smoothly with a professional proposal.
3. Check the options in your Employment Contract (or Collective Agreement)
More and more employers and trade unions recognise the value of personal development. It’s possible that your employment contract (or collective agreement) includes a budget for training or development. This budget is specifically reserved for you and can often be used for coaching or career guidance.
What can you do?
Review your employment contract to see if coaching is covered. Often, you will find specific clauses that grant you the right to career advice or coaching. You can ask HR for a copy of your contract or consult it online. Bring your contract to your coach to discuss the available options further.
Examples of Coaching in Various Employment Contracts:
- CAO Municipalities Agreement, Article 8.6: Employees are entitled to career advice after every 36-month period.
- CAO Universities Agreement: If you have been employed for at least two years, you may be eligible for free career advice.
- CAO Medical Centres Agreement, Article 3.5: Employees are entitled to career advice every five years, either from an internal or external expert.
- A+O Fund for Government Employees: Employees who have worked for more than 3 years in government are entitled to career coaching worth up to 1,500 euro with a certified coach, without needing approval from your line manager.
By following these simple steps, you can give your career a significant boost, supported by your employer! Feel free to contact me for a free initial consultation and discover how we can help you further.
Good to know: The content of your coaching journey is always confidential. Even if your employer is paying for it, no details about your coaching sessions will be shared with your employer without your consent.
